The Ayung River is the longest river in Bali, stretching 68.5 km from the mountains of Kintamani to its mouth in Sanur, passing through Bangli, Badung, Gianyar, and Denpasar. Known as one of Bali’s most popular white water rafting spots, the river is sustained by three main tributaries — Tukad Bangkung, Tukad Mengani, and Tukad Siap — which converge at Payangan.
The river’s geography combines mountain slopes and flatlands, with temperatures ranging from 18.4–26.6°C and annual rainfall that decreases from over 3000 mm in the upstream to around 1486 mm downstream. Sedimentation levels vary widely, reaching a total of about 91,000 tons per year.
